A Tomb is a lootable location found only in Desert biomes. When the player enters a tomb and opens the sarcophagus, one of the following takes place:

  1. 60% of the time, the mummy rises from its sarcophagus and must be fought as an enemy.
  2. 40% of the time, the mummy does not rise and there is no fight. Any companion with the Superstitious ailment will lose one Loyalty, and there’s a one-in-four chance that a random companion will acquire the Cursed ailment.

Loot[]

If the mummy must be fought, the defeated mummy is the only loot.

If there is no fight, loot includes the mummy as well as treasure:

  1. One treasure item worth 70 Fame
  2. Two treasure items worth 50 Fame each, or each item has a chance of being replaced by two jewels
  3. Two jewels

These three options are equally likely. On Expedition 3 or later, the loot will also include a Moon Stone.

Unlike shrines, tombs do not cost Standing to explore and loot. However, Mummy enemies are treated as wildlife and will cost -1 Standing upon kill.

  • Tombs are one of the few locations who's presence is indicated on the World Map when choosing a destination. Some deserts have no tombs, but others have as many as 3.
  • Contrary to popular opinion, your Sanity does not affect the chance that a mummy will attack.
