Persian Translators are companions that grant you more Sanity when resting at a village (the amount depends on the translator's level), though they do not lower the Standing cost, nor the Value cost when demanded by the villagers due to low standing.

The translator's ability to communicate with natives may trigger some positive events when resting overnight in the village. In addition, having a translator in your party will give you +1 Standing at the beginning of the expedition; this ability does not improve as the translator levels up.

They also translate any dialogue/comments a Native companion makes so the player can read it.

Persian translators are normally available for recruitment only in London.

Once per expedition, a special camping event may trigger if you have a Persian translator in your company, their Loyalty is at least 1, and your Sanity is high. You will be given the option to stay up late and exchange linguistic knowledge with the translator. If you accept, you will get -10 Sanity but the translator's loyalty will increase (+1).

May start with the following ailments: Superstitious (16.7%), Claustrophobic (11.1%), Sexist (11.1%), Kleptomania (5.6%), none (55.6%).

A Persian translator is a common starting companion, and one is present in the starting parties of explorers Charles Darwin, Johan Huizinga, Marcus Garvey and Mary Kingsley as well as secret explorers Aeryn, Alison Zawacki, Austin Walker, Baron Victor von Paragon, E.S. Goffterding, Freiherr von Gehlsdorf, G.K. Norman, Gregor Onkh, Hercule Boumba, Hiram Bingham, Johannes Kristmann, Lawrence Talbodd, Rafal Sokulski and Rami Ismail.

Tips[]

  • A Persian translator offers up to two blue dice, which is useful in many situations, and also allows you to efficiently trade items valued in native villages, such as whisky, fireworks and colorful marbles, for Sanity. Their downsides are that their ability is only effective in villages, which is less flexible than relying on items that restore Sanity, and their low carrying capacity.
