Outposts are locations that appear only in RIVALS mode, and combine some of the functions of London and your ship, which do not appear in this mode. RIVALS mode expeditions will always start in an outpost.
The options available at Outposts include:
- Deliver Treasures. You may exchange any items for their Fame value. These items will be removed from the game permanently.
- Trade for Equipment. This will bring up the trading screen. The selection of items varies from outpost to outpost but is similar to what can be found in London in the standard game mode, with the difference that you exchange items for their Value rather than using Funds to buy them (Funds are not used in RIVALS mode). The Black Market perk will make outposts offer you a larger selection of goods.
- Visit sick bay. You can heal most ailments for 50 Value per character.
- Ask questions about this land. Here you can read gameplay information about RIVALS mode.
- Seek out Badge Servant. Initiates a dialogue with the badge servant (see his page for details). Only useful if you have equipped an expedition crate containing a badge.

- Visiting an outpost will fully replenish your Sanity.
- You cannot recruit companions at an outpost.
- Animal improvement is not available either.
- You also cannot get free water like at your ship in the base game, though it is usually available for purchase.
- Despite its apparent size, the outpost only takes up one hex on the map.
- Using a tome page of Homebound in RIVALS mode will return you to the nearest outpost.
