Mercurial is a mental ailment that causes a companion to suffer periods of maximum and nonexistent loyalty. It is randomly caused when resting or travelling below 30 Sanity.
Like most mental ailments, it may be cleansed with a Green Mushroom, cleansing at a Shaman Hut, or with the random blessing of Pure Mind from a temple.

This ailment was called Bipolar in older versions of the game, and is still referred to as such in the game files.
