Kleptomania is a mental ailment that causes an afflicted companion to steal items from your inventory, from other companions and even from villagers. It is randomly obtained when travelling or resting at low Sanity, and is one of the few ailments a recruited companion can start out with.
When resting in the open with a klepto, an event may occur in which they steal from another companion and an argument ensues. The player must choose who to side with, and whoever isn't supported will become Angry or even abandon the party.
A klepto may actually help in the Steal Idol quest. If the player fails to steal the idol because of a lack of the correct dice or a failed roll, a klepto companion will steal the idol for themselves. This is revealed after leaving the village, giving the player the choice to let them keep it or demand the idol for themselves. Taking the idol at this point reduces a klepto's loyalty.
Like most mental ailments, Kleptomania can be cured with a Green Mushroom, cleansing at a Shaman Hut, or with the random blessing of Pure Mind from a temple.
