An Infected Wound is a temporary physical ailment that occurs when an injury is left untreated or when moving around at zero Sanity (one of your companions may walk into a poisoned trap).
An infection's effects are delayed by 3 travel legs before kicking-in. After that, it halts health regeneration and has a 20% chance of causing death during every travel leg. This ailment can affect all companions (including animals), but not explorers. Companions with the Regeneration blessing are, however, immune.
Like injuries, this ailment can be cured with a First Aid Kit or Red Mushroom, by resting at a Healing Spring or by paying for healing at a Shaman Hut.
Note: In earlier versions of the game, explorers could get infected and even die of infected wounds, but this is no longer true in the current version.
