An elephant is a very large herbivorous mammal, peacefully inclined towards humans, if left on it's own. Travels alone or in pairs.

Unlike most other animals, elephants on the map are surrounded by a blue zone, instead of a red one, meaning they are not automatically hostile towards player's expedition.
