The camel is a pack animal that can also be mounted. It is effectively an improved version of the donkey, with improved cargo capacity (4 crates) and Sanity saving capabilities (Medium Mount perk).

Camels are less common than donkeys, as they can only be recruited in bedouin villages, while only Freya Stark and a few secret explorers start with a camel in their party.

When compared to other mounts, a camel is strictly better than a donkey. When not mounted, it is identical to a Water Buffalo, but when mounted, it is less suitable for combat but better at reducing the Sanity cost of travel, making it better suited for a pacifist strategy. Parasaurolophuses or Raptors are strictly better than camels, but are much harder to find, being only available in Lizard Villages or from raptor eggs, respectively.

Notes

• Animal: Has no skills and can only be promoted through Alexandra David-Neel's Animal Whisperer perk.
• Mount: Can be ridden to reduce the base sanity cost of travel. When mounted, gains an additional combat die and the Medium Mount perk at the cost of -2 total Cargo Capacity.
  • Combat dice given when mounting can not be used when over-encumbered.
